More cool portfolios…
Posted by James - 30/06/07 at 09:06:10 amI can’t remember exactly how I happened across this site, but [Self Titled] by John Iacoviello is an awesome example of a flash site. Really cool. It’s kinda like Craig Akehursts’, one of this years crop of graduates from the University of Gloucestershire, but I suspect that John Iacoviello has had his website up a little longer.

Apollo takes to the .air
Posted by James - 26/06/07 at 10:06:55 pmMuch like the Spartan king from that movie 300, Apollo has obviously spent its time in the alpha version wilderness, and has returned to take on its new name. All praise “AIR”. (Adobe Integrated Runtime)
Seriously though, I’m not sure that it returned wrapped in the skin of a dead wolf (or a dead Silverlight) but it certainly piqued the industries’ interest. Time will tell, as always, whether the stir it caused actually forced Microsoft into announcing features they hadn’t planned for, or wether the race is truely still on.
Anyway, enough mystical-sounding crap. What’s this all about then?

Posted by James - 26/06/07 at 09:06:18 pmYep, I’ve finally sorted out that darned Wireless Network. Turned out it was as simply down to a conflicting subnet between the two routers. Hooray for Netgear Technical Support!
Pittville Degree Show 2007 - see you there?
Posted by James - 22/06/07 at 09:06:00 amWell, today’s the day. No doubt some of the third-year students at Gloucester Uni are still working on their displays as we speak, but the Pittville Degree Show 2007 is opening in less than 12 hours now.
I’ll be along to see if they’re up to scratch, and hopefully meet some more of my old uni buddies back there aswell.
Adobe Flash CS3 - off to a worrying start?
Posted by James - 20/06/07 at 06:06:46 pm
I’m afraid I’m only commenting on hearsay here, not actually firsthand experience. Because we still don’t have Adobe Studio CS3 at work. Yes I know, a professional “New Media” agency doesn’t have the latest and greatest software… shocking.
But anyway. People have been conversing / moaning / arguing on FlashCoders mailing list today, about how Flash CS3 weighs in at around 400mb and a 30min+ install time, compared to Flash 8’s 110mb and less install time.
They’re all worried that Flash could end up going down the road of Adobes’ Acrobat in terms of file sizes and continual ‘updates’. Continue reading Adobe Flash CS3 - off to a worrying start?…
Optimizing your CSS Online
Posted by James - 09/06/07 at 10:06:47 amAnother useful link, this time for Optimizing & Formatting CSS files.
The CSS Formatter / Optimizer is an online form, that can format your CSS in a variety of ways. Just copy & paste, select your options, and the form will chuck your formatted CSS back at you. Why use it? Well, I’m still using Dreamweaver 8, and although it’s very competent at things like XML and HTML formatting, it’s no good at doing CSS. I like to use this website towards the end of my projects, and it makes your stuff so much neater (and more efficent, if need be) Continue reading Optimizing your CSS Online…
