Debugging Flash Movies with Fiddler 2

What is Fiddler?

From the Fiddler website:

Fiddler is a Web Debugging Proxy which logs all HTTP(S) traffic between your computer and the Internet.

Simple really. Introduced to me by Chris Preece, this is a Microsoft-made debugging tool which shows you all of the header information and file requests that your browser makes. It’s works with IE, and also claims to work with other browsers (I’ve never tried this though) Continue reading Debugging Flash Movies with Fiddler 2…

FlashDen

I’m surprised I haven’t come across FlashDen before, but here’s the deal…

FlashDen sells premade flash ‘bits’. It’s like a marketplace, with every user able to buy and sell flash files, all for pretty reasonable prices. (We’re talking $2 - $30 here.) And the files are anything from Preloader bars to fully-featured xml-driven portfolios. It’s worth a look.

Creating an Icon with Photoshop

I just upgraded to CS3 (finally!), yet I’m still dissappointed by the lack of support for Icon files. Especially now that favicons are so in vogue now. Fear not though, because Open-source plugins are to the rescue!

Very easily, you can now save out both normal and package icons from Photoshop, with the addition of the plugins available from Telegraphics.

It’s about time I had a proper favicon for this site, so I stole some inspiration from Adobe and added my own little twist. Voila!

Optimizing your CSS Online

Another useful link, this time for Optimizing & Formatting CSS files.

The CSS Formatter / Optimizer is an online form, that can format your CSS in a variety of ways. Just copy & paste, select your options, and the form will chuck your formatted CSS back at you. Why use it? Well, I’m still using Dreamweaver 8, and although it’s very competent at things like XML and HTML formatting, it’s no good at doing CSS. I like to use this website towards the end of my projects, and it makes your stuff so much neater (and more efficent, if need be) Continue reading Optimizing your CSS Online…

BittBox!

BittBox exploded onto the scene in January* and has quickly established itself. It always looks stunning, has high quality content, covering topics related to Graphics and Web design, and often with a smattering of nice freebies and tutorials. It’s quite inspirational, and I like to watch the RSS. So, umm… check it out.

EveryStockPhoto

Following up on yesterdays’ post, there’s perhaps an even better way to find yourself some free stock imagery. Everystockphoto is a search engine that pulls its images from a range of online imagebanks, all free of course. Amongst them are sites like Stock.xchng and flickr. It even utilizes OpenSearch to make it even more useful.

The downside of using EveryStockPhoto however, is that you can’t instantly be sure of the liscensing permissions of the images, and you have to look into it yourself, which can take a little longer than simply searching on places like Stock.xchng. Plus, the search results are often full of amateur photography results pulled from flickr (most of which are tagged in some stupid way for a stock repository) But, where there’s volume, there’s more of a chance that your obscure search results will dredge up something.
